About Me

“The most important quality in a counselor is caring. Caring is a genuine desire to be helpful…The most powerful factor for abetting change is empathy.”

My Story

As a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor/Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor licensed in Maryland and North Carolina (MD Lic. #LC8596, NC Lic. #LCMHC19514), I provide individual therapy for adults and adolescents. I have a Master of Arts (MA) in General Psychology and Bachelor of Science (BS) in Dietetics from James Madison University, I have experience in community mental health, hospital, and college mental health settings as well, working with clients with severe mental illnesses to mild adjustment disorders, providing psychoeducation, individual, and group therapies.

I have also been a walker for over twenty-five years. I find that my experience of walking to be not only something that has been beneficial to my physical health, but has helped me emotionally and spiritually. A unique feature of my practice is the ability to offer walking sessions to my clients. I want my clients to be able to experience the healing and health benefits of walking that I have experienced. By offering the option of walking during therapy, clients are enabled to literally and figuratively move forward during their therapy sessions.

My approach to treatment is integrative. I believe that it is important to incorporate all aspects of wellness when approaching therapy, and that your physical and mental well-being are strongly connected. By including movement with therapy, we will work on both your body and mind throughout treatment. I help my clients to address a range of emotional and behavioral issues, and provide services that span from therapy for depression to counseling to achieve a healthier lifestyle and beyond. My approach is holistic and strengths-based—focusing on the mind-body connection and utilizing clients’ past and present successes to address the challenges being faced.

I am also pleased to be able to offer EMDR therapy to clients. EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is a form of therapy that helps people heal from trauma or other distressing life experiences. EMDR therapy has been extensively researched and has demonstrated effectiveness for trauma. EMDR, rather than focusing on changing the emotions, thoughts, or behaviors resulting from the distressing issue, allows the brain to resume its natural healing process, and is designed to resolve unprocessed traumatic memories in the brain. For many clients, EMDR therapy can be completed in fewer sessions than other psychotherapies. EMDR therapy helps children and adults with a wide range of challenges including: anxiety, panic attacks, and phobias; chronic illness and medical issues; depression and bipolar disorders; grief and loss; pain; PTSD and other trauma and stress related issues. Please let me know if you wish to learn about the benefits of EMDR therapy.
